Architects Founding Guitarist Passes, Band Still Commits To Aussie Tour

It’s with great sadness to report Tom Searle, guitarist and founding member of UK metalcore act Architects, has died after several years battling cancer. In a heartbreaking post on the band’s Facebook, drummer and twin brother Dan Searle informed fans of his brother’s passing.

“Many of you will be aware that Tom  has been absent from various shows over the past 15 months and I can now let you know that this was due to various surgeries that he had to have to treat the cancer,” Dan wrote.

Tom didn’t let the illness stop him, as he continued to perform with the band right up until his final shows in June.

“He got on stage and performed his last two shows at Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park, which took him an incredible amount of strength but those are two shows that we will never forget.”

Architects were forced to cancel their European Festival tour and a US headline tour due to a drastic decline in Tom’s health which resulted in him being put in a medically induced coma that doctor’s doubted he would recover from. Tom defied the odds and woke to continue fighting for another two months.

Tom and Dan Searle formed Architects in 2004 and have released seven albums. Their latest effort, ‘All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us’, peaked at #2 in Australia album charts, marking their highest ever chart position.

While the future of the band is uncertain, Dan has confirmed Architects will still travel to Australia to support Bring Me The Horizon in a few weeks’ time.

“We want to carry on, that is important to say, and we will strive to do so,” said Dan.

British tradiecore metalcore leaders Bring Me The Horizon have been going from strength to strength over the last few years, with their latest album ‘That’s The Spirit’ hitting #1 on the Australian album charts. Bring Me The Horizon achieved #68 in the triple j’s 2014 Hottest 100 with ‘Drown’, and #45, #86, and #99 in last year’s Hottest 100 with ‘Throne’, ‘Happy Song’, and ‘True Friends’ respectively.
