The Cat Empire Jazz Up “Get Some” For Like A Version

Triple j’s Like A Version studio was filled to the brim by Melbourne 8-piece The Cat Empire when they stepped up with their cover of Get Some by Swedish indie-pop singer Lykke Li.

Transforming the original song’s rolling tribal beats into their characteristically jazzy style, The Cat Empire have made this track entirely their own. Ollie McGill’s funky organ accompanied by the ‘Empire Horns’ blaring their signature brass embellishments are everything we’ve come to expect from this groovy group.

Felix Riebl’s velvety vocals bring a new level of raciness to Lykke Li’s lyrics. Hearing the line “I’m a prostitute/And you’re gonna get some” in his husky male tones lends a sordidness that was glossed over in the original song.

Altogether, Get Some becomes more elaborate and mature in the seasoned hands of The Cat Empire. The track, while not straying too far from the original sound, is transformed by a few subtle yet significant changes, to create something rich, catchy, and oh-so-sexy.
