House Of Giants Take Us On An Epic Journey With New EP

HOG Band

I feel like I’ve been waiting my entire life for this EP, so with my expectations sky rocketing through the roof I can safely say I would brush my f*cking teeth to every song on ‘Through The Trees’ by House Of Giants.

Crazy instrumental funk-rock legends House Of Giants (HOG) have finally announced the release of their EP ‘Through The Trees’. If you haven’t heard of HOG then I’m sorry to say you’ve have been missing out on one of the greatest 5-piece experimental, funk rock instrumental bands of the 21st century, that’s the truth.

“House Of Giants have grasped the importance of taking care in making songs which are catchy enough to sing the music instead of the lyrics…because there isn’t any.”

Being an instrumental band, HOG have grasped the importance of taking care in making songs which are catchy enough to sing the music instead of the lyrics…because there isn’t any. Audience members and fans have created an emotional attachment to not only their tunes and killer melodies, but their eye gluing stage presence and care free attitude.

Although instrumental, HOG certainly doesn’t fade into background music and that’s lot more complicated than it sounds. HOG has never been one to shy away from just being themselves, and as a listener each track extenuates just that by taking you on a journey you’ve never experienced before. If you enjoy bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sleepmakeswaves, and Russian Circles you’ll love HOG.

‘Through The Trees’ features a track called The Lumps that was released back in June as a teaser for the EP. The track has been set as my personal alarm for 2 months now and I still love the song, I think that’s a true indication of just how bloody superb this EP really is.

“Then boom! You’re hit with Bloom’s upbeat repetitive riff and suddenly you want to escape time and you start to run but you have no idea where to go or even what your escaping from.”

My favourite track would be Bloom. It starts off slow like a dream, you’re lying in the grass looking up at the sky with the clouds and world moving all around you. Everything is calm, your body and your mind are working as one. Then boom! You’re hit with Bloom’s upbeat repetitive riff and suddenly you want to escape time and you start to run but you have no idea where to go or even what your escaping from. The music then calms down and you start to regain your composer. Your body is turning in circles, what about your family what would they do if you ran away, what about your boyfriend and your cat what would they do without you? You lie back down on the grass and the world and you move as one once more time and you drift off to sleep.

Every song  on this EP is incredible, there is no other way to describe it. Clean recordings, well written songs, and an overall sense of being transported to another world with every track and a different world every time. I encourage everyone to get on board and grab yourself a copy of ‘Through The Trees’ and catch their live EP Launch on Thursday 3rd March at Brisbane’s The Foundry.
