Gordi’s New Video Leaves Us ‘Wanting’ More!

Fresh from a string performances around the world, Sydney-born songstress Gordi is back home with a brand new video for her track Wanting! She’s set to celebrate the video’s launch with a tour, playing several shows along the east coast.

Wanting features an interesting fusion of genres, featuring jangly folk guitar and gentle percussion contrasted starkly against the layered vocals. The song builds layers of sound so subtly that it’s barely noticeable at first. The understated yet powerful brass line is a pleasant surprise, culminating in a rich swell of harmonies and building a beautiful soundscape with synthesised layers.

The accompanying video is similarly subtle at its beginning, building towards something more powerful and discomforting. It shows a grayscale image of a young woman in a white slip confronted with her aged reflection. Her curiosity and confusion quickly escalates into distress, anger, and violence.

It’s a powerful commentary on fear of the future and a desire for change in one’s life. Gordi describes the video as “a young girl looking at what she hopes is not her own reflection, because though it’s years in the future, she’s in exactly the same place once again.”
