HABITS’ ‘Selfie’ Is A Commanding & Important Listen

HABITS never do things in half measure. Bare witness to the Melbourne duo’s latest mesmerising, enthralling journey, Selfie. It comes with the announcement of their new EP, ‘Salty’.

Conjuring the deepest, darkest entropies of abrasive electro-pop, HABITS’ Selfie is a polarising new single. The group first caught out attention with the excellent Shame/Desire—a track exploring the ultimate form of self-expression, disregarding your safety. Following on from that, Selfie is the band celebrated transparency and authenticity in their own way. Abrasive, and often times uncomfortable, HABITS’ production ranges from harsh industrial, to toxic pop. Combined with the eerie, pitch-shifted vocals and droning synths, Selfie is a commanding and enduring listen.

The video, directed by Dyllan Corbett, places the two members of HABITS is a diorama of sorts and explores the dissonant, continued existence of queer identities throughout history.

Come June, HABITS will be playing their first headline shows of the year. Starting in Hobart for the very special, illustrious Dark Mofo celebration, they’ll play a pair of shows in Sydney and Melbourne, respectively. Ms. Boogie, from New York City, will be joining the pair for both dates.

‘Salty’ is out 15 June. Watch Selfie below and see where HABITS are playing near you.
