JayCee’s 10 Steps To Surviving Welcome2BNE @ The Zoo

Brisbane’s leading hip hop artists are coming together to showcase their talent in what’s set to be a beat-banging, rhyme-spitting paradise! Record label Strictly For The Heads is presenting the ‘Welcome 2 BNE Hip Hop Showcase’ at The Zoo, spearheaded by Brisbane rappers TJ, LAGOON COMPANY, JayCee, tomtom, APEman, and Kraznov, who have come together to form the hip hop collective Strictly Fam.

JayCee has given us less ‘street OGs’ here at AAA some helpful tips of how to make the most out of the highly anticipated night of live hip hop!

1. Squad Up!

Suicide Squad has been one of the biggest movies of 2016. We hope your squad can be just as bad-ass, but ideally less murder-y…

2. Watch ‘8 Mile’

Pre-show homework. If you’re not keen for a rap show after that there’s something seriously wrong with you!

3. Pack Light

Despite boasting a lineup that could cover a full weekend festival, this huge show is one night only. So no need to bring the tents or sleeping bags! Unless like some of the artists you’ll be going so hard you need a cheeky nap. Check with The Zoo whether they’ll allow this (they won’t).

4. Practice!

Nothing says ‘rap gig’ like ‘ad libs’. Show that you know your favourite artists’ tracks by learning those hooks and choruses, and be ready to chant them back at us!

5. Behave

Ignore this one. Somebody has to play Dad for this rap squad and I drew the short straw. Go mental ya filthy animals!

6. Avoid Confusion

G E is a rapper not an energy company. Although listening to G Elenil bangers may electrify…no hidden charges, we promise.

7. Contingency/Escape Plans

Should the music become too face-meltingly awesome, or the alcohol too.. .alcoholic, you may need to find your way home or to some *food (Edit: eating is cheating). Thankfully ‘the Valley is teeming with options for both from train and bus stops to a whole host of greasy food outlets. Don’t be soft though. *AAA always eats at Ben’s Burgers, which is just below The Zoo 😉

8. Be Social While Social Media-ing

Some will struggle with this one but it’s important not to forget about real life while surfing deep on the inter-webs. As long as you remember to use the hashtag #welcome2bne and look up every now and then we’ll be laughing!

9. Be Legit

Bring your ID’s and tickets if you’ve pre-purchased because we can’t just let any man and his dog inside! In fact we actually can’t let any dogs inside. Sad, I know!

10. Family First

This show features the Strictly Fam, the DBL Team, and the tight-knit Loose Screws/Skrub/Donny Casper combo, so be sure to snap some family portraits and give your little brother heaps.

Additional Notes

• Shout out tomtom at least ‘one time’ if not ‘kinda twice’
• Respect the venue. It is called The Zoo but don’t get too primal! (APEman excepted)
