Jordan Merrick Is One Of The Greatest Singer Songwriters This Side Of The River

Believe it or not, Jordan Merrick has only been flooding our Spotify playlists since February this year. This young, but seemingly intrepid and fluid folk artist, is back again to tug on some heart strings and prove his worth as one of Brisbane’s finest singer-songwriters this side of the river.

‘In Colour’, Merrick’s debut EP released back in May of this year, propelled him into an incredible spiral of attention. Now, striking while the iron is incredibly hot, Merrick has announced another EP along with an accompanying single, Gypsy Driver.

‘Songs From House Arrest’ is the Brisbane crooner’s second EP, in which Gypsy Driver is another fine taster. For the first time, Merrick brought in a full band to record these set of songs—ushering in a new generation of his music and giving him a stronger pedestal for his languid poetry.

Merrick’s music has never sound more dynamic and fluid than ever—taking the full band aesthetic to full use. A lush soundscape of pianos, strings and slide guitars all ramble and skid over Merrick’s hushed vocal structures. Though Merrick is still the main focus of the track, the newly implemented instrumentation into Gypsy Driver further exemplifies the singer-songwriter’s castrating and purposeful lyrics. It’s a yielding listen that spurs warmth from just a few listens.

Always one to demand prosperity and traversal through his poetic lyrics, Merrick describes Gypsy Driver as a song of risk taking.

It’s a song that compares demanding relationships with that of a prospector getting captured and strung up before he could find his wealth. In the end, life is demanding, work is demanding, relationships are demanding – but if you want something bad enough you need to best those demands to come out on top,” said Merrick.

Behind his ambitious new single, Jordan Merrick will be performing on a few stages across the east coast this November. Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Sunshine Coast, make sure you catch Merrick on these intimate and exclusive headline performances.
