Milk Buttons Are At Their Peak On ‘Some Impression’

Milk Buttons

Time and time again, Milk Buttons seem to impress with their caustic and frenzied take on rock. On Some Impression, the Brisbane duo’s latest, they make a clever reinterpretation of what it means to be a guitar rock band in 2018.

Though it seemed impossible coming from their last single Cosmic Garbage, Milk Buttons have stepped up yet again and raised the bar even further. On the surface, the song is a distinct coupling of psych and alt-rock that appeals to both the music nerd niche and rock fans alike. Though, underneath, what Milk Buttons have constructed is a completely apt extension of musical ingenuity, furthering their technical capabilities as a duo.

Musical duos have always appealed the most to me—whether it’s the clever songwriting of The White Stripes, the unreal loudness of DZ Deathrays or the new-wave noise-pop of Sleigh Bells. Milk Buttons tick all the same boxes as the aforementioned bands do—they find a crack in the formula and cleverly fill it, making for a rollercoaster of musical talent.

The song is a prime example of their extreme talent—it runs through three different time signatures, all the while keeping in tune with their exulting psychedelic rock brand.

Milk Buttons have a pair of single launch dates in December—one in Melbourne and Brisbane, respectively. Scope the dates below and stream Some Impression.
