Nick Murphy (FKA Chet Faker) Drops Delicious Experimental Second Single

Moving on from his moniker Chet Faker, Nick Murphy’s first single Fear Less enjoyed a glowing reception, and it seems he’s on a roll with his second single Stop Me (Stop You). The tune comprises stylistic elements of his beloved Chet Faker era alongside a heavier electronic influence and experimental vocals.

Stop Me (Stop You) begins as an intriguingly thin procession of alarm-like tones, quickly unfurling into a thick blend of electronic and rock influences. Its complex rhythm promises to hold the listener’s attention from beginning to end while Murphy’s smooth vocals offer a soothing contrast.

Over eight minutes, the track balances instrumentals with effects and restraint with busy interwoven sections, blending contrasting melodies and rhythmic development together smoothly. Moving beyond his famous alter-ego hasn’t cost Murphy his touch or his ability to manipulate rhythm and melody, ensuring plenty of opportunities to get lost on this 8-minute long aural exhibition.

Murphy says the song marks a crossover point for him, reminiscent of his change in musical direction. “Stop Me (Stop You) is essentially two inseparable songs. Yin and yang of past and present,” he says.

The new single is also apparently the lead single from the Melbourne-born now New York-based artist’s upcoming debut album, with its title and release date yet to be announced.

The only concrete news Aussie fans can look forward to is catching Nick Murphy’s headlining performance at Laneway Festival 2017. Until then, check out Stop Me (Stop You) and Fear Less below!
