PREMIERE: The Rhythmic Hiccups Of Attonbitus’ ‘Next Time Around’ Makes For Genius Art-Rock

Attonbitus are genius indie-pop madmen. The Adelaide three-piece construct intriguing and dense rhythms that propel them in a wayward frenzy—an exuberant sprawl of genres. AAA Backstage is pleased to offer the premiere of their new single, Next Time Around, before its release this Friday.

Twitchy songwriting underneath an outburst of reggae-inspired guitar licks, Attonbitus ratchet up the turbulence through byzantine time signatures, rhythmic hiccups and anti-pop musical notions. They layer a prickly guitar amongst a titular whistle hook that peers in-and-out of the bridges. Attonbitus form a paradox of unconventional, jagged rock moments with more subdued and logical midsections.

Next Time Around is comfortably their own. The band’s soaring imagination when it comes to forming a unique and eccentric art-rock piece has well and truly peaked. Though, at a time like this, it seems their ideas are endless.

Communicating their form of angst amongst the art-rock flourishes, Next Time Around is about not wasting your time on someone who metaphorically slaps you with the silent treatment.

The song’s meaning communicates the familiar feeling of frustration when attempting to get an honest word from someone who has abruptly turned cold on you. Next Time Around expresses the realization that the silent treatment is not worth anybody’s time, and that it’s better to not waste your energy trying to get an answer out of someone who is not forthcoming,” explains vocalist and guitarist, Michael Brigante.

Attonbitus are launching Next Time Around this Friday at Adelaide’s newest, coolest art space, Chateau Apollo, alongside Sons of Zoku and It’s A Hoax. Steam Next Time Around below.
