PREMIERE: Ben Camden’s Everlasting Love On ‘Strawberry Jam’

There’s no denying it. The immediate punch of Ben Camden’s voice is one that’s everlasting and directive. He sets the tone, pace and precedence for the remainder of the track in that first verse. You really don’t hear a voice like that all the time but when we do, like on Strawberry Jam, his latest, it’s a damn pleasure. AAA Backstage has the premiere of Camden’s new video before its official release.

Hailing from the Southern Highlands, Ben Camden has been kicking goals for a little bit now—mainly thanks to his stunning debut EP, ‘This Is Yours’. Back, and striking while the iron is hot, Camden has announced his sophomore return titled, ‘Caroline’. Due early next year, the EP was recorded with producer mastermind Govinda Doyle who’s previous work includes none other than Angus & Julia Stone’s smash single, Big Jet Plane. What’s even more interesting is the whole EP—Strawberry Jam included—was recorded inside a converted water tank in the Byron Bay hinterland.

“I had the sound for Strawberry Jam in my head for a while and Govinda was able to bring it to life. It was something I was a bit intimidated by at first, but we just dived in and it’s something I’m really proud of now,” said Camden.

The video pairs with the song’s tone perfectly. Moody and without colour, Camden’s voice and ramshakling melodies makes for a formidable, and oddly nostalgic, blend. Throughout nearly the entire video, the footage is double exposed with that of Camden signing cut with nature and love. Because, let’s face it, Strawberry Jam is a love song.

Ben Camden has just wrapped up a far stretching national tour which included some support slots with Sarah McLeod. He’s promised to be back on the road in the New Year—so keep an ear to AAA Backstage for any future tour date announcements.
