PREMIERE: Capital Gains Capture The Minutia Of Melbourne On ‘Patience’ EP

Capital Gains

It seemed like only yesterday that we premiered Capital Gains’ Foster, but in that time, the Melbourne four-piece have continue to shape and develop themselves into a formidable rock band that is quintessentially Australian. AAA Backstage has the exclusive premiere of their new EP, ‘Patience’.

Speaking of Australian, no wonder this EP bleeds it from each of its three tracks as none other than Total Control and Eddy Current Suppression Ring’s Mikey Young mixed and mastered it.

Remember the finer, more clever rock music from Australia’s past and present greats? When writing songs about the land we stand on was all the rage. Capital Gains is here to bring that fad back to life and savour every moment. The interconnecting guitar riffs married with lyrics that are intelligent and wide-eyed with an unmistakably Australian dry wit, the Melbourne group have undeniably carved out a unique place in the musical landscape both locally and further afield.

Over the three tracks, there’s some impressive, angular punk and dehydrated indie-rock on display. They manifest guitar-driven set pieces into lackadaisical, meandering moments of the minutia in Melbourne suburbia. Capital Gains capture a time and place so well that you feel at home wherever and whenever you listen to ‘Patience’.

Capital Gains have a pretty unreal residency coming up at The Tote in Melbourne. Each Tuesday in March, they’ll play for free with a slew of special guests.
