It’s an exciting time to have headphones ladies and gents! We’re excited to be premiering ‘Meteorite’, the debut EP from Melbourne solo project Owls of the Swamp. This musical gift of five indie-folk tracks is set to transcend your day to a higher place.

Following his three albums ‘Smoky Bay’ (2007), ‘Go with River’ (2011), and ‘ATLAS’ (2014), ‘Meteorite’ is an musical expression the artist’s recent expedition to South America. Under his Iceland-based project Owls of the Swamp, Pete Uhlenbruch created the new EP to express a transformative period he experienced in the jungles of Peru with the medicinal plant, Ayahuasca (pronounced eye-ah-wah-ska).

The debut EP is comprised of five sonically similar tracks that each explore a different aspects of the human condition. Key elements of this EP are slowed paced vocals, considered lyrics, absorbing instrumentals, and light-handed electrics.

“…the collection of songs delivers an uber-pleasant musical atmosphere, something crafted for when you just feel like floating above the clouds.”

There are moments in which Uhlenbruch sounds similar to Passenger (Skipping Stones), and other moments reminiscent of Japanese Wallpaper (How Long Have I Been Sleeping?). However, these moments are never too derivative of any particular act, which gives ‘Meteorite’ a truly unique and distinct sound.

For us, the highlight of the EP is the first track Start All Over. In Start All Over, Uhlenbruch utilises instrumentals and electrics to set an attentive pace and captivating beat. The song’s melody as he croons, “can we start all over like it doesn’t matter/can we find a way to make these old wall shatter”, gives us a glimpse into Uhlenbruch’s impressive vocal range.

Overall, the vibes we get from Owls of the Swamp’s debut EP are melancholic and deeply reflective. This approach to the collection of songs delivers an uber-pleasant musical atmosphere, something crafted for when you just feel like floating above the clouds…or y’know it’s 3am and you’re feeling pretty blissful. While ‘Meteorite’ will not be everyones cup of tea, or hallucinogenic plant, this EP is perfectly suited to the mindful and mellow inhabitants of our Earth.
