The Outdoor Type Channels The Go-Betweens In New Track “Rumination”

Melbourne’s the Outdoor Type have returned with a rapturous new track Rumination. Born out of frustration with the nine to five life, this song is what you need on a Friday afternoon.

The Outdoor Type has had audiences thirsty since the release of their 2015 EP, which featured chart topping singles When The Sun Goes Down and Are You Happy. The single is a natural progression from this, with all sounds recorded live in their backyard studio, limiting the capacity for “studio trickery.”

Rumination is unlike anything on the radio on the radio right now, but the concept itself isn’t new with the track drawing strong parallels to the Go-Betweens Streets Of Your Town. Both songs feature melancholic lyrics, and are backed by contrasting, euphoric acoustics. The band is heavily influenced by classic Australian acts, a type of sound that has been greatly missed on the airwaves.

Lead singer Zack Buchanan wrote the track at a time when he was becoming “fed up with music, or to be more specific fed up with working in a call centre and being broke.”

“The song is about the nature of the modern, routine-driven, fast-paced, nine-to-five, mortgage ’til you die time that we live in. It’s a rejection of that – and, at the same time, a want to prove to yourself, or to others, that you are capable of all those things,” said Buchanan.

This ironic track is a welcomed addition to the Outdoor Type’s collection. However, it is clearly a warm up for the coming months.

After being on a live show circuit opening for Vera Blue, Alex Lahey and Tiny House’s, the band is about to embark on their own east coast tour in October and November! They will also be joining the NYE On The Hill lineup alongside The Preatures, Columbus and a plethora of other acts.
