ALTA Say It’s Okay To Cry In The Club On ‘Figured Out’

ALTA are on top of the world. Now You Want Me is still one of our favourite tracks of 2018 and the band were even one of our most hyped acts to catch at Splendour in the Grass. The grass couldn’t be greener for the shimmering synth duo now releasing the vivid, Figured Out.

The dichotomy of ALTA’s music is at an anxious imbalances, which keeps me coming back for me. In line with Kllo’s patented formula, this Melbourne duo’s downtempo gloss remains brash, dynamic and incredibly textured. It’s brooding, slower music that’s built for the club. The striking discomfort in music animosity is what made their previous single such a damn tune.

Their beats and production is still crystal-clear. Though vocalist, Hannah Lesser, appears so distant, she evokes such emotion out of her despair. Layered and filtered through a lo-fi octave, Lesser still remains powerful and enlightened. This is, of course, partly due to Julius Dowson’s thunderous backdrop.

The finale is a crisp and concise reformation of club and pop aesthetics. It’s a thrilling and stellar conclusion to ALTA’s more progressive moods. Their vulnerabilities appear human and ever-present through Dowson’s sharp club beats and fluid vocal sampling. It’s a potent ending to an amazing song.
