Animal Kingdom Q & A: The Wildbloods
Sydney rockers The Wildbloods are currently on the road in support of their latest party starter Don’t Be Shy. We asked the four gents how they’d approach bringing wildlife into everyday situations and what to expect from their live shows!
If each band member were to be reincarnated as a wild animal, which animal would you guys want to be?
Johnny: A Tortoise, I could hide when I get nervous or just don’t wanna deal with a situation. They live for a long time. Also, not many people know the difference between turtles and tortoises, so if I get bored of being a tortoise I can always just be a turtle instead…
Justin: A panda, I’ve always wanted to eat bamboo but as I am currently a human I feel that society would frown upon me doing so.
Jensen: A dolphin, apparently they have the ability to utilise half their brain when they sleep. I think this is pretty cool and I could get a lot more done at night with this skill!
Josh: A penguin, I love the colder climates and wouldn’t mind hanging out more often in the snow. Plus Pingu was one of my favourite children’s shows when I was a kid!
If all of the band members in your animal forms were to fight for survival, who would win?
The Penguin! They’re so cute. Honestly who could kill a penguin?!
As a band, if you were going to a costume party as wild animals what would you dress as?
Lemurs, because they’re so adorable and cute and it would be a great opportunity for us to finally cover I Like To Move It in honour of our beloved King Julien from ‘Madagascar’.
Which animal would you most like to use for band transport around town?
A Zebra, because everyone knows you should stop for a zebra crossing.
Would you rather run fast like a cheetah or fly high like an eagle?
Firstly, EXCELLENT question! It’s a difficult choice but as eagles can actually fly faster than cheetahs can run (according to the internet) so we simply must go with the eagle in this case. Logic prevails!
How would the band go about catching a wild fox?
We would first uncover the mystery as to what the fox actually says and then go from there. Communication is key to any endeavour!
Which animal would you the band least like to be stuck in an elevator with?
An elephant. We’ve done so well at avoiding the elephant in the room for a while now and we’d like to keep it that way.
For the uninitiated, how would you describe The Wildbloods’ sound and live shows?
What we think we sound like: a combination of The Kooks, Powderfinger, and Arctic Monkeys.
What people say we sound like: The Smith Street Band, The Rubens, and The Strokes.
What we actually sound like: It’s anyone’s guess. What is certain is that we love playing shows! So to the uninitiated we’d like to say “get initiated already!”. Come watch us play and judge for yourself. We’re a friendly bunch too and we’d be more than happy to have a chat and a sneaky beverage afterwards.
We’re loving your latest single Don’t Be Shy, what was the inspiration behind the track?
We wanted to make a high energy track that people could really let loose to at our shows. Something catchy, fun and light hearted that gets people in the mood to sing and dance. We’re basically telling the audience through this song to not be shy and to come party with us!
Lastly, what are three things people should know about your upcoming single launch shows?
- All shows are free!
- Everyone gets a hug from Justin our lead guitarist.
- We’ll be keen to party on with the locals afterwards.
