APES Announce Debut Album and Live Residency

APES

Melbourne’s APES are just about ready to jump back into your lives and your ears when their debut album ‘Stranger Than Strangers’ drops later this year. As a nice Christmas in July-style present, the band have even graced us with a sneak peak of what we can expect!

The two minute clip from the lead single Fourth Point shows an evolution of the indie rock sound that APES have been laying down for the past few years, with many more restrained elements and segments throughout the track. Soft guitar and bass lines back a near-whisper from vocalist Ben Dowd, before everything explodes. Tom-heavy drums thunder and psychedelic sounding guitars swirl before we’re treated to the kinds of vocal harmonies that we’ve grown to love from the band.

The accompanying promotional video shows the band in the midst of their recording sessions for the up-coming album. Between the ciggie rolling, face drawing and live footage, the band look like they’ve been hard at work putting together a straight up rock ’n’ roll album for their fans.

With the album finished, the band are looking to hit the road again, with their first live show in over six months taking place at Melbourne’s YahYah’s with supports IV League. Following that, the band will take up residence at the Gasometer Hotel, playing every Wednesday night at the venue, with a cut of the door profits going to the local community radio stations.

For those who might not be on the wagon, APES have been making waves in the music world with their old-school sounding indie rock since they were selected to be one of triple j’s Unearthed Acts at Big Day Out in 2013. Their previous tracks, Pull The Trigger and Dimensions received a solid amount of airplay, and their rollicking Seven will help your kiddies learn to get those numbers right.

‘Stranger Than Strangers’ is due out in October, but check out the preview video for Fourth Point and the live dates below!
