Daste Unveil Captivating New Single, ‘River’
Gold Coast-based trio Daste has unveiled their latest single, River, as part of the build-up to their highly anticipated album set for release in February 2025. Over the past few months, the band has delighted fans with a series of impressive tracks, including Around, Colours, Atlas, and Starwriter.
‘River’ emerged from an inspired collaborative session in the scenic hinterland of Yamba, New South Wales. Daste collaborated with talented friends Aidan Rahman and Jess Cameron, resulting in a creatively rich experience. The group’s synergy is evident in the song’s harmonious melodies and meaningful lyrics, which took shape as they jammed together in a cozy living room setting.
“‘River’ was a really rich collaborative experience. We spent a few days in the hinterland behind Yamba in New South Wales and were lucky to be joined by our good friends Aidan Rahman and Jess Cameron. They came through on our second day and we immediately got stuck in to jamming. Once we had the first chord progression down, we all sort of sat around the living room and bounced melodies and lyrics around amongst one another until the skeleton of the song was finally formed. We knew we’d definitely landed on something special both in sound and song meaning,
As we bounced melodies and lyrics amongst one another we naturally started to write about the idea of love being so wonderful but so scary all the same. Heartbreak can cause fear of love itself and make it hard for you to open up to anyone or be vulnerable again. This song embraces love and the idea of just jumping into the unknown.
Fast forward about three months and we found ourselves in LA working out of Jim Alxndr’s studio where we dissected the track and added a lot of organic sounds to enrich its fun loving, live nature, including the upright piano which definitely brought the initial vision to life.” – Callum MacDonald (of daste.)
