David Brent Is Coming Back With His Long-Awaited Musical Career
Remember this piece of British television gold?
If you don’t then get yourself sorted out and watch the UK Office immediately. If you do, then you’re in luck, because David Brent, the Manager of Slough’s best paper merchants, is coming back to your life in a big way.
As avid fans may remember, Brent, played by comedian Ricky Gervais, talked of how he turned away from a life of fame to pursue his career doing what he does best: managing people. However, it would seem that in this digital age, paper merchants are doing it tough, and looking for a career change once more in the movie, ‘David Brent: Life On The Road’.
The band David Brent & Foregone Conclusion are at the centre of the upcoming mockumentary that follows them as they self-finance their tour across America. To get you ready for that mammoth journey, the band’s one-and-only album is being released later this year.
The lead single from the album is Lady Gypsy, a folky number that features smooth guitar and piano notation, soaring harmonies, and very subdued percussion. Gervais’ Brent’s vocals have a deep resonance as he sings longingly about a gypsy heather saleswoman to whom he lost his virginity.
The accompanying music video showcases this chance encounter with a cringeworthy hilariousness that only Gervais and his comedic style could pull off.
The rest of the album will bring a number of hits in a variety of styles, including the ever-immortalised Free Love Freeway.
Gervais fans may also note that the British comedian was once in a real-life band called Seona Dancing, who’s song More To Lose was a big hit in the Philippines, with follow-up track, Bitter Heart soaring to the massive spot of No. 79 on the British charts in 1983.
Yeah, that’s him on the left.
‘David Brent: Life on the Road’ hits Australian theatres on 26th August, 2016. Lady Gypsy is available for purchase now.
