Ears On SPOTLIGHT: 5 Brisbane Mosh-Starters You Need To Hear

ears-on-brisbane-heavy

In our last ‘Ears On’ we left the safety of the Brown Snake to look at some of the best bands coming out Sydney, and we found some groups that are dropping absolute fire! However, that leaving home made us feel angsty, and there’s nothing better for getting angst out of your system than some heavy, heavy jams. We put together a list of five of the best heavy bands dominating the stages in Brisbane that will soon be conquering a venue near you!

The Brave

the-brave

As one of UNFD’s most recent signings, big things are happening for The Brave! With a killer debut album under their belts, the 5-piece have made quite a lot of noise. All the breakdowns and melodic choruses you could want are packed into their tracks, and The Brave have racked up some killer shows over the next few months! We’re looking forward to their spot at UNIFY 2017 and support slots with label buddies Northlane and even Falling In Reverse!

Columbus

columbus

Leading our punk assault is none other than the young guns at Columbus! After winning the triple j unearthed Soundwave competition back in 2015, all the way to playing UNIFY in 2016, the trio have really come a long way in a relatively short period of time as another one of UNFD’s new signings. They have a real ‘grass-roots’ approach and tracks for almost every mood. Their infectious energy, huge choruses, and serious blink-182 vibes make them a live gig favourite of AAA’s, as the band’s authentic nature really helps them stand out in a crowded field!

Disentomb

disentomb

With a logo you can barely read (see below) you’ve got to know what you’re in for before you punish your ears. Disentomb is for those who love pig squeels, blast beats and insanely technical guitars (seriously though, these guys are crazy)! While no means a small band,  as these guys have a pretty dedicated following, we thought they could do with some more time in the limelight!

Disentomb take what you know about death metal and slap you in the face with it! Their full-on, balls-to-the-wall approach will leave the meeker listeners scarred for life. Disentomb have racked up some impressive shows with the likes of Cannibal Corpose, Suicide Silence, Morbid Angel, and Hatebreed, and have toured the America, Europe, and even Indonesia. Their raw sensory onslaught makes them a real force to be reckoned with!

He Danced Ivy

hedancedivy

This local outfit are self proclaimed party thrashers, and the proof is in the pudding with their brand of catchy and almost funky punk sound. Their latest offering The Verbal Kind, which premiered on AAA Backstage (low-key self promotion there, what of it?), is full of chunky sounding riffs, plentiful bass soloing, and tight vocals. Think of a mix of punk, thrash metal, and some more mainstream alt-rock sounds, mixed all together, and the resulting blend is what He Danced Ivy serve up in kind!

Deadlights

deadlights

Post-hardcore outfit Deadlights bring a fusion of sounds to the table. They rang from insanely rowdy screams and neck-snapping breakdowns to huge anthemic, poppy choruses, and ethereal instrumentals dripping in effects. A solid dual vocal attack also provides some impressive layering and depth to their songs. With more support tours that you can imagine, Deadlights are definitely paying their dues and getting their name. Check ’em out!
