Spirited Psych-Rockers Young Monks Drop Trippy New Video + Single
Reggae indie rockers Young Monks have made their long-awaited return with hazily upbeat new single Bad Bad Freddy. The track is a groovy, tropical infused offering with a trippy music video to make it that much better. What can be best described as Sticky Fingers meets Bootleg Rascal, the new tune is the first taste of the bands forthcoming debut album.
Bad Bad Freddy is an auditory trip bursting with the experimental sounds of the psychedelic ‘60s, funky ‘70s, and heavy-hearted ‘80s, complete with floating guitar lines and a mesmerising melody. The music video is a trippy journey through a mirrored room, with masks, four-eyes and puppets to put you on the train straight to hallucination station.
On the creation process of their first single in over a year, the band explains:
“We actually wrote the riff about 9 months ago when we were rehearsing, and since then it’s always been a favourite of ours. We decided to give it some flavour and begin a demo of it. It underwent a few chorus changes and we landed on something that we enjoyed to groove to.”
The Canberra five-piece have quickly formed a dedicated fanbase with their infectious slow jams and poppy melodies. Bad Bad Freddy is a more reggae inspired tune compared to the previous single Jarmin In The Dark. With an atmospheric and groovy instrumentation, creating a thicker, fuller sound that pushes the track beyond a simple indie-psych jam and towards a more memorable, sing-a-long, stage ready ripper.
The up-comers are now preparing for the massive Spilt Milk Festival amongst the likes of heavy hitters Violent Soho, Flume, Gang of Youths, and Sticky Fingers.
