Odd Future’s Domo Genesis Drops Dapper Debut Album

Domo Genesis

Domo Genesis manages to emerge from hazy clouds of smoke and carve out his own space separate from Odd Future with his debut album ‘Genesis’. It was always going to be difficult for Domo Genesis to navigate an individual, original solo career in a rap landscape so dominated by members of Odd Future (Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Frank Ocean etc.). But with ‘Genesis’, the former collective member manages to form his own sound and achieve just that.

To celebrate the release of his debut album, the American rapper also dropped the music video for his groovy single Dapper (ft. Anderson .Paak). The clip features the crew, filled out by Tyler, The Creator, Taco, Jasper, and Left Brain circling a roller skating rink and as they urge you to, “Hold that light/ Smoke that fire”. The clip gives us Saturday Night Fever vibes with the 70s feels perfectly fitting in with the track’s throwback, soulful sound. Anderson .Paak’s lush hook, Domo Genesis’ smooth rap, and a killer electric guitar solo make it a track worth getting your boogie on.

The Odd Future Records produced album also features a ton of collaborations including with Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, Mac Miller, JMSN, and DA$H. The album is very much a reassuring one for Domo Genesis and about casting away self-doubt.

In the atmospheric opening track Awkward Groove he raps, “I got knowledge for every dollar made, so look at me now/ I’m scared of none of my flaws, they got ‘em shook of me now/ So if you ever had a doubt about it, it shouldn’t be now”.

After years of mixtapes, Domo Genesis has finally managed to find his place with ‘Genesis’ and create a soulful, funk-tinged rap album.
