2016 Grammys Snub Aussie Artists
The 58th Grammys held such promise for some amazing Australian artists, but it seems the judges have overlooked the bulk of the Land Down Under this year.
Tame Impala and Hiatus Kaiyote were both in with good chances for the ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ and ‘Best R&B Performance’ categories respectively, but didn’t quite scrape enough votes to bring home the Grammys.
The judges preferred The Weeknd’s Earned It over Hiatus Kaiyote’s Breathing Underwater, leaving Courtney Barnett as the only Australian artist still in the running to win a Grammy in 2016.
Rising star Barnett is up for the Best New Artist award, to be handed out later today.
Other ‘Strayans that were snubbed this year include Keith Urban in the Best Country Solo Performance category, and Canberra conductor Nicholas Milton in the Best Classical Instrument Solo.
Here’s hoping Courtney Barnett can impress the judges enough to bring home the sole Australian Grammy this year!
