51st Avenue Share Inspirations Behind New Single, ‘The Dark’
Coming in hot with their third single for 2024, 51st Avenue continue down a heavier path with their pulsating new track ‘The Dark’.
As we saw on the bands previous single ‘Moments’; ‘The Dark’ is full to the brim with riffs, dynamic vocal passages and a brilliant use of atmosphere. With a future-forward approach sonically , the band blend elements of electronic music, pop-punk and metalcore with ease – weaving in and out of melodic, scene-setting verses and fully-fledged breakdowns effortlessly.
To celebrate the release, the band have today shared a list of tracks that inspired the sound found on ‘The Dark’.
Bring Me To Life – Evanescence
One thing that a great song has, is a great guitar tone. And that’s exactly what we took from Evanescence, that unmistakable nu-metal tone and rhythm which inspired us to write an early Bring Me The Horizon style riff which features throughout the track.
Attack – System of a Down
The way that System of a Down uses dynamics between the verse and choruses creates a huge sonic difference that makes you take note. We took this concept of a pedal to the metal style of riff, which then slams you into a heavily electronic verse before welcoming the return of the heavy guitars for the chorus. We take things one step further with an even heavier instrumental section that just makes you want to sit back and take a sip.

The New Black – Everytime I Die
Be careful, your 2000’s metalcore kid is showing! This song starts with a sick riff that’s revisited throughout the song. It gives you that stank face. We fooled around with some southern metalcore vibes to come up with something fun that hits hard in the live setting, but not too complicated that we can’t be our crazy selves during the show. The New Black ticks those boxes and helped guide us to The Dark
Call Me Little Sunshine – Ghost
Haunting. There is an obvious theme established in Call Me, and we love it. We thought some spookiness would compliment The Dark’s lyrical theme and juxtapose the returning riff in between sections. Ghost shine so much in their bridges, perfecting the art of keeping the theme while somehow feeling a big shift. The vibes don’t end even with those dynamics, and you feel super immersed.
Curse – Architects
From the very beginning, Architects give us huge tribal drums that continue throughout the song. These drums just do something to you, they’re infectious and you can’t help but nod your head. Combining with the anthemic chorus and you’ve got a certified banger on your hands.
