Ali Barter Takes On Tame Impala For Like A Version

Covering Tame Impala is a pretty big feat, and covering ‘Cause I’m a Man left Ali Barter with giant shoes to fill. The 2015 #61 Hottest 100 placing track is super loved by all, so the stakes for today’s Like a Version were pretty high.

Barter’s beautiful and colourful vocals do compliment the track, but they lacked the execution and emotion that makes the original just so very special. It’s a good cover but it’s not that different to Impala’s original, so it doesn’t quite challenge the Like A Version benchmark.

Tame Impala are known for their psychedelic rock sound, which made Barter’s slightly grunge twist kind of cool to hear, but it’s only in the chorus so we were left craving more of those fuzzy guitar riffs by Holy Holy guitarist Oscar Dawson.
