Amastro Sets The Tone With Fresh Single + Tour Announcement
Amastro, the pseudonym of Sydney-based electronic producer Angus Murphy, has announced a national tour to support to release of his new single At The Tone. The track features vocals from Ned Philpot, a singer-songwriter from Canberra who grew up next door to Murphy. The song is Amastro’s first original release since his self-titled debut EP released in April.
Amastro really shows his chops in At The Tone, creating an elaborate soundscape that gets deeper with every listen. Entire string and brass sections are created by his masterful use of a synthesiser, underpinned all the while by a strong, compelling beat.
Philpot’s almost boyish vocals make an unusual counterpoint, but Amastro’s subtle use of a synthetic warble on Philpot’s voice seamlessly integrates his style of singing into the larger soundscape. The vocals nearly imperceptibly fade in and out in a way that mirrors the rhythm playing behind it, making your head and shoulders start moving before you realise it’s happening.
With its smooth melody and low, thudding beat, At The Tone is the perfect song for a chilled-out afternoon. It’s slick, effortless sound is everything we’ve come to expect from Amastro since his first steps into the electronic music scene last year.
Having already graced the stage at this year’s Splendour In The Grass, his debut Australia-wide tour in support of this new release should mean some great things in store from this newcomer!
