Annakye Unleash Their Fiery New Single, ‘Headstart’
Central Coast punk rockers Annakye have just revealed their high-energy single, Headstart. The fast-paced track follows their previous 2023 singles, Ocean, Too Far South, Passion Pop and Reese Witherspoon and closes the year out with a bang.
Headstart is punchy and demanding from start to finish; its extra punchy energy keeps the listener hanging on for its two-and-a-half-minute lifespan. The track starts with airy drums and quickly jumps to life with ripping guitar riffs and throaty vocals. Its extensive energy reminds me of early DZ Deathrays or Violent Soho, mammoth sound and a lot of fun.
The track came about during a writing session in their lounge room. They were struggling to get a start on something. It didn’t take long before they knew they had something. To spice things up for the forthcoming clip, the band even hired out a smash room to truly emphasise the energy behind the track.
“Fun fact – We hired a smash room to make a little clip for Headstart, and our lead singer dislocated his finger while smashing things.
The song is just a fun one we put together one day in my lounge room, trying to get a headstart on everything but always left in the dark.
We recorded it at Cooper studio on the Central Coast, and it was mixed and mastered overseas by two people: Ben Reggers and an 80s pump-up jam engineer and mixer, all played a part in this track. It’s a high-energy fun song! Get ready to dance.” – Annakye
