The Axis of Awesome Singer Comes Out As Transgender
Australian comedian and musician Jordan Raskopoulos has come out as transgender in a video posted via Facebook earlier today.
The Axis of Awesome singer speaks about how she has struggled with gender dysphoria since childhood and that making the transition is her shot at a happy life.
“There is a lot that’s changed physically and emotionally in the latest year, but I have to say I am so much happier,” said Jordan.
She explains that while she’s kept her first and last names, she’s added the middle names Nicola and Bridget. Jordan also stated she prefers the pronouns she, her, and hers.
Jordan goes on to express her fear that her life as a transgender woman maybe mutually exclusive to her life as a comedian and performer, but cites fellow transgender icons Lana Wachowski (Director of The Matrix) and Laura Jane Grace (Against Me! Founder) as inspiration to continue her career.
“In fact, I think it’s really important that I do because being trans doesn’t mean you have to give up on your life, or your friends, or your family, or your career, or your achievements. I’m going to continue doing exactly what I was doing before, and I’m going to be fucking awesome,” said Jordan.
The Axis of Awesome will also be releasing their latest album this Thursday, February 18 and touring nationally.
