Baker Boy Drops Powerful New Single ‘THICK SKIN’ Ahead of Upcoming Album DJANDJAY
Multi-award-winning Yolŋu artist Baker Boy has released his bold new single ‘THICK SKIN’, the latest track from his highly anticipated second album DJANDJAY, arriving October 10.
A defiant anthem of resilience and cultural pride, THICK SKIN features a powerhouse Blak choir including Thelma Plum, Emma Donovan, Kee’ahn, and Jada Weazel. Written in response to the fallout from the 2023 Indigenous Voice Referendum, the track confronts racism in Australia while celebrating strength, unity and survival.

Leaning into punk influences for the first time, Baker Boy blends raw intensity with his signature Yolŋu Matha rap, channelling frustration and anger into powerful declarations such as: “My pigment is my pride… red dirt, gold chains, blak knight, thick skin.”
The striking video, directed by Aurie Indianna and Jordan Ruyi Blanch, was filmed inside the historic Werribee Mansion—reclaiming the colonial landmark as a stage for Blak voices. Its strobe-heavy punk aesthetic builds to a moving gospel-like finale led by the choir.
DJANDJAY, named in honour of Baker Boy’s late grandmother and a Yolŋu spiritual guide, promises to be his most emotionally layered work yet. Featuring collaborations with Briggs, Haiku Hands, REDD, Pardyalone, and Jean Deaux, the 14-track record cements Baker Boy as one of Australia’s most important cultural voices.
