Banoffee Unapologetic in New Video “I’m Not Sorry”, Drops National Tour

Martha Brown, better known as dreamy electronica artist Banoffee, has been keeping busy, recently wrapping up on the Laneway Festival circuit and will be appearing at next month’s Splendour in the Grass.

The Melbourne artist is making sure she stays well-and-truly on our radar, dropping her latest ethereal electro-pop single I’m Not Sorry along with a long-awaited national tour.

As the song name suggests, I’m Not Sorry is unapologetic and intensely personal. It’s a synthesiser-heavy, hazy pop gem that strips back Brown to more vulnerable state, confronting herself in mirrors or duplications of herself in the video.

Brown (Banoffee) says of the track, ‘it’s a push back to all the things we’ve been told so many times we now tell them to ourselves. Women are brought up bound and gagged in shame for being different, for giving a shit, for being ambitious—all because we’re powerful.”

Her bold and emotional writing style carries the song by refusing to apologise for being innately human, and in turn starting a conversation about suppression amongst women with lines like “how long is too long to live under your hate?” .

The beat itself is in a similar vein to Grimes and FKA Twigs, aided by quality production and a captivating performance to accompany a deeply contemplative track. Despite it’s personal nature, I’m Not Sorry is warm, relatable, and dripping in subtle R&B influences.

The six-date tour, kicking off this weekend in Brisbane, will see Banoffee play at Sydney’s VIVID Live in the Women in Electronic Music showcase alongside Rainbow Chan and BUOY. She’ll also be joined at Melbourne’s Roxanne Parlour by friends Dro Carey, Lossless, Habits and more, for a party curated by Brown herself.

This tour will be Banoffee’s final stand-alone shows in Australia before heading overseas to take on an international audience!
