Birds Of Tokyo Say Stop Being Sheeple In New Track “Empire”

birds-of-tokyo

Perth rocker heroes Birds of Tokyo have released their latest single Empire just a few days out from releasing their fifth studio album, ‘Brace’. Empire is the second track to be released from the upcoming album, after they dropped the title-track Brace in September. Empire is much thematically darker than their previous work as well as being far more rock oriented, just as the band have promised, and will leave you feeling pretty keen for their upcoming tour!

Empire opens with spacey synthesisers and samples before launching into the groove-laden verse. The slower pace of the verse really allows the spikes of synth to really shine, while the guitars and drums lock together to form a solid base. Before long the track’s chorus makes its presence felt, and boy is it a cracker!

With a huge, ridiculously catchy and interesting chorus the band have smashed it out of the park. The chunky guitars pretty much explode, accompanied by an incredibly solid rhythm section. The synthesiser takes a back seat at this point, simply used to add depth and intricacy to the wall-of-rock being produced.

Coupled with Ian Kenny’s powerful vocals belting out, “They don’t want to be there/When the sky begins to roll/We won’t be defeated/Every empire has to fall/Lets bring it down”, the chorus is hair raising. Functioning as a call to arms with the lyrics “Come on be reckless with me”, the bridge perfectly segways into the final chorus, bringing Empire to a resounding close.

The accompanying video perfectly suits the political tone of the song. The backbone of the clip shows the band playing through the track, interspersed with strange humanoid imagery as well as varying images of conspiracy theories, iconic political figures, and plenty of protests.
