BLICK BASSY Teams Up With Australia’s RY X on Immersive New Track ‘MBONDI’

Coming through with a collaboration we didn’t know we needed, but are so happy is here, Cameroonian singer-songwriter Blick Bassy has delivered the addictive ‘Mbondi’; a track that has seen the France-based artist team up with Australian musician and producer, Ry X.

‘Mbondi’ is a captivating track from the jump – fans of Ry X will recognise the dreamy, immersive nature of the arrangement, say – the final result providing a fitting introduction to Blick Bassy. It will be featured on his forthcoming project Madíbá’ ni Mbondi, a deluxe version of his recent album, Madíbá’. In Blick Bassy’s language, it translates to Water and Flower.

Of ‘Mbondi’, Blick Bassy has commented on the blend of soulful, and cultural influences, in making something that feels contemporary and fresh, while also having one foot planted in African musical traditions.

I have always claimed my status as an African musician, but also the contemporary aspect of my approach. In African musical culture, there is unfortunately little of this type of work on the sound itself, on the exploration of new techniques. I would like to position myself as an African avant-garde artist who, with each of his new projects, offers new ideas in the treatment of sound and melody.” – BLICK BASSY

Australian audiences were able to experience Blick Bassy’s hypnotic live show when the performer was part of the 2023 Perth Festival. Hopefully it won’t be long before more music lovers in this part of the world are able to get a feel for this music, and connection to culture; in the meantime, the North American and European markets are first up on Blick Bassy’s list.

While we wait, take a listen of ‘Mbondi’ below.
