Bluesfest & Boomerang Festival to Join Forces

Bluesfest and Boomerang Festival have announced the Indigenous festival will have it’s own independent space at next year’s Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Boomerang Festival was first held in 2013 as an independent event on the Bluesfest site.

However, despite resounding support and acclaim for the event the Boomerang Festival was unable to secure funding to operate during the 2015 Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Recognising the importance of this important event Bluesfest organisers have worked with Boomerang Festival organisers to ensure it survives and thrives despite a temporary obstacle and is part of the 2016 Byron Bay Bluesfest.

Bluesfest Director Peter Noble said the Boomerang Festival precinct at Bluesfest is all about cherishing culture and ending the disparity between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australia.

“This intergenerational exchange will allow our loyal audiences a unique hands-on engagement and experience while allowing the Boomerang Festival to build audiences and find support as a future a stand-alone festival,” said Mr Noble.

Boomerang Festival Director Rhonda Roberts said the opportunity to have a focus on the Boomerang Festival and at Bluesfest “increases community pride and wellbeing, and continuing the region’s vibrant philosophy as a leading festival destination”.

Managed and programmed from an Aboriginal perspective the Boomerang Festival is a dedicated Indigenous performance and interactive event showcasing amazing and important Indigenous art & culture.

Its aim is to provide Aboriginal access for all those wishing to engage in a quality, unique, true Indigenous experience.

Boomerang Festival will host its own space next to the Jimbalya Stage at next year’s next year’s Byron Bay Bluesfest.

The full program will be released soon.
