Bon Iver Raises Album Anticipation with New Single “33 GOD”
Beloved Canadian folksters Bon Iver have given us another taste of their soon-to-be released third album with a new single, 33 GOD. If this single is anything to go by we can expect great things from ’22, A Million’.
The new track has all the quintessential Bon Iver elements; it has classical piano chords, wholesome lyrics, and the beautiful vocals of frontman Justin Vernon. But it also has a new element of darkness, with heavy electrics, strong bass, and some sneaky use of a vocoder. The track hits harder than anything the band has done before!
This new side to Bon Iver is also evident in the other released tracks of the upcoming album, 10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⚄ ⚄ and 22 (OVER S∞∞N).
A change in Bon Iver’s sound has to have been somewhat expected, seeing as the band’s last album ‘Bon Iver’ was released in 2011. During their time off from recording the band has been pretty busy, as they’ve made music for movie soundtracks (such as Zach Braff’s movie ‘Wish I Was Here’), and featured on James Blake’s Fall Creek Boys and 2016’s I Need a Forest Fire. There’s also talk they may have appeared on Frank Ocean’s ‘Blonde’ although this is yet to be confirmed…
These collaborations appear to have changed Bon Iver’s sound for the better, and the new album ’22, A Million’ has so far been well received. The band debuted of the full album live and in full at the Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival, and amateur live recordings have since gone viral.
