Bootleg Rascal Drop Hypnotic New Single ‘Street Shark’ Ahead of Upcoming Album
Gold Coast/Yugambeh favourites Bootleg Rascal are back with their brooding new single ‘Street Shark’, released alongside a stunning music video. The track marks the final preview before the duo’s forthcoming self-titled album, due October 29, produced by Caleb Tasker (The Terrys, Rum Jungle) and mixed by Ian Pritchett (Angus and Julia Stone, Boo Seeka).
Co-written with longtime friends Seamus Coyle and Freddy Crabs of Sticky Fingers, ‘Street Shark’ showcases a more introspective side of Bootleg Rascal’s sound. Taking inspiration from Massive Attack, Gorillaz and MGMT, the song is a hypnotic slow burn that layers airy instrumentation, lush textures and Carlos Lara’s dream-soaked vocals. Gradually building to a soaring crescendo, it leaves listeners in a mesmeric haze of ethereal guitars and swirling synths.

“‘Street Shark’ feels like one of our more sombre tracks. It touches on self-reflection and those moments where you might feel like a bit of a loner or even a bit of a piece of sh*t. But it’s not all negative – it’s also about taking the good with the bad and making the best out of hard situations. It’s about accepting yourself for who you are, while feeling nostalgic about the good times that have passed. All those themes are tied up in the song.” – Jimmy Young.
The accompanying music video, directed by Hamish Stephen, was filmed across Sydney’s Inner West and CBD, echoing themes of lonerism, self-discovery and hope.
Currently on tour across Australia and New Zealand, Bootleg Rascal are set to headline major events including Oktoberfest at Polytech Stadium and Dunedin Beer Festival, while gearing up for their biggest release yet.
