Brace Yourself For Birds Of Tokyo’s New Album With New Single

Birds of Tokyo have announced they will be releasing their fifth album ‘Brace’ in early November this year! To celebrate this announcement the band have released the title track, Brace. Oh, and just for FOMO’s sake earlier this week the 5-piece got together to play all of the album’s songs in a special gig in Sydney for a few hundred fans.

Famous for hits such as Plans and Wild Eyed Boy, the Perth rockers aimed for a darker sound with their upcoming album. Frontman Ian Kenny says the band wanted an album that would be fun to play live. “When we were writing and recording we kept talking about how we wanted to make a really dark and intense rock record that would be great to play live”, said Kenny.

Birds of Tokyo’s latest single Brace definitely has a darker feel to their earlier work. It’s also got an almost stadium-rock anthemic quality to it, with vocals heavily laced with reverb that soar like birds…probably do in Tokyo (sorry, had to be done). The chorus features fuzz-driven guitars and choral-sounding vocals, which give it a sound reminiscent of bands like Muse. It’s massive, it rumbles, and it definitely will put some spring in your step!

The band’s second album, 2008’s ‘Universes’, saw them make it to #3 on the Australian Album Chart, and was responsible for killer singles Silhouettic and Wild Eyed Boy. Their third and self-titled album saw the band gain further attention from single Plans, which was #four in triple j’s 2010 Hottest 100.

Check out Brace below and keep your ears peeled for the band’s fifth album set for release on Friday, 4th of November!
