Bright Eyes Reveal New Single, ‘Rainbow Overpass’ Ahead of New Album

Bright Eyes have unveiled their latest single, Rainbow Overpass, from their upcoming tenth studio album, Five Dice, All Threes, set for release on September 20. The vibrant, punk-inspired anthem is driven by acoustic guitars, dynamic horns, and enthusiastic gang vocals featuring Alex Orange Drink from The So So Glos. The track’s accelerating tempo mimics a speeding car soaring over the titular rainbow overpass.

Frontman Conor Oberst explains that although he and Alex collaborated on many of the album’s songs, Rainbow Overpass is the only track where Alex takes the lead on a verse, likening him to a hype man with a touch of Beastie Boys’ influence. The inclusion of various voices injects raw energy into the music, aiming to capture the adrenaline of live performances directly on the record.

Following the critically acclaimed single Bells & Whistles, released in June, Rainbow Overpass continues to build anticipation for the new album. Self-produced and recorded at ARC Studios in Omaha, Nebraska, Five Dice, All Threes is characterised by its intense emotional depth and intricate craftsmanship. The album features guest performances from longtime friends Cat Power, The National’s Matt Berninger, and Alex Orange Drink, enriching its sound with diverse influences.

As always, Bright Eyes’ music is layered with subtext, inviting listeners to delve deep into their work. Conor Oberst’s confessional and unguarded songwriting promises to transform solitary emotions into shared experiences, affirming the band’s enduring influence across generations and genres. With Five Dice, All Threes, Bright Eyes delivers a visceral and fearless collection of songs, reinforcing their status as icons in the indie music scene.
