Canberra Metal Artist Machine On a Break Unleashes Powerful New Single ‘Limbo’

Canberra metal artist Machine On a Break has just dropped her electrifying new single, Limbo, and it’s already turning heads. This track is a powerful anthem that showcases her unique sound, weaving through an emotional tapestry that reflects some of the most challenging times in her life.

Limbo opens with haunting whispers that echo the ghosts of Machine On a Break’s past, setting the stage for a journey through themes of belonging and existential questioning. The song’s structure is a masterclass in contrast, moving seamlessly from atmospheric vulnerability to the thunderous roars of big guitars and powerful drums, all while maintaining an undeniable unique pop appeal.

Lyrically, Machine On a Break delves into the depths of regret and survival, questioning her actions and contemplating her existence. Yet, amid this introspection, there’s a resolute message of hope and perseverance. This dynamic is not only captured in the song’s sound but also in its poignant lyrics, which explore the artist’s struggle and ultimate resolve to push forward.

“I was genuinely unsure whether or not I should release Limbo as a single due to the confronting content, but I realised that was maybe part of a wider problem. I hope that in sharing Limbo I am able to stand in solidarity with people who are or have been in a similar place, and that my words help at least one person avoid finding themselves in their own limbo. Limbo is about a mindset change, and when I say “I don’t want to be here anymore,” I mean I don’t want to be in limbo, and so I ask “which way is it to home” so I can return to living my life. I wrote this song as part of my healing, starting out as a piano ballad, before it grew in dimension working with producer Jon Reichardt (Bliss N Eso, Hilltop Hoods) who helped me achieve a sonic representation of the feelings I was sharing. Moral of the story is, “Learn from what I did – I regretted it and there are better ways to change your mind. We don’t have to be happy all the time; all feelings are valid. Sometimes it just sucks and I am with you.”- Machine On A Break.

Limbo was a semi-finalist in the Listen Up Music Songwriting Prize in 2023, highlighting its impact and resonance. Machine On a Break uses her music as a cathartic outlet, aiming to inspire and uplift those who have faced their own struggles. This track is more than just a song—it’s an anthemic call to anyone who has ever felt lost, urging them to find strength and hope for a brighter tomorrow.
