Cardboard Cutouts Announce Debut Album ‘Politics and Footy Tips’, Drop Stirring New Single ‘Steer’

Emerging alt-rock band Cardboard Cutouts have announced their highly anticipated debut album, Politics and Footy Tips, set for release on June 27, 2025. To celebrate, the Toowoomba outfit have also unveiled a powerful new single, ‘Steer’, offering another glimpse into the emotional depth of their forthcoming record.

Packed with raw lyricism and heavy-hitting melodies, Steer captures the inner battle between self-doubt and growth. The track explores the pressure of life-changing decisions and the anxiety that follows—showcasing the band’s signature blend of heartfelt storytelling and punchy, alt-rock grit.

“‘Steer’ is about trying to back yourself for a better life and trying to seize opportunity for growth, but having seeds of self doubt looming over every decision. It’s difficult to make big life decisions without feeling like you’re throwing parts of you down the drain and losing control of your life for a little while. ‘Steer’ aims to capture the internal monologue of the anxiety and confusion that comes with that.” Cardboard Cutouts.

The release follows the success of previous single My Best Friend, which earned airplay on triple j Unearthed and community radio stations, along with coverage from other big tastemakers. Known for their genre-hopping style and emotionally rich songwriting, Cardboard Cutouts have been building steady momentum through both studio releases and a growing live presence.

Following their first east coast tour and sold-out Brisbane headline show, the band is gearing up for a breakout year. Politics and Footy Tips promises to be a bold, genre-blending debut that puts Cardboard Cutouts firmly on the map as one of Australia’s most exciting new rock acts.
