Carnival Q & A: The Bennies

The Bennies 2016

Melbourne cosmic rockers The Bennies have announced what has to be one of the biggest national tours of 2016, taking in heaps of regional cities amongst the 27-date tour. After floating around Australia’s underground rock scene for years, the release of their sophomore album ‘Wisdom Machine’ earlier this year saw the quartet finally break through to a national audience. We threw the band some questions about their average carnival experience and their best tour memories.

You guys have just arrived at the carnival, what’s everyone’s first priority? Rides, games, or food?

Games!! Also maybe food depending on what time of day it is. Also rides!

Who’s the first to get lost?

Jules! But he will end up in a hilarious situation.

Where or how do you find them?

Follow the empty beer bottle trail.

Who spends way too much money trying to win on the clowns?

Bowie for sure! He loves all skill testing type stuff, and annoyingly he’s also really good at it.

Who gets scared at the top of the Ferris Wheel?

Sucks, but its definitely Craig!

What’s everyone’s carnival food of choice?

Anty: Hot Chips & Sauce, Bowie: Fairy Floss, Craig: Candy Apple, Jules: Corn Dog.

Who’s the first to get sick after going on too many rides? Who’s looking after them?

This would be Anty, he’d be too full of hot chips. Probably get security to help him, the rest of us would be busy on rides.

What ‘Bennies song should be playing in the Haunted House?

Our song Party Till I Die for sure! We actually imagined a haunted ghost ride while writing that song, so it seems fitting to us!

What’s your favourite memory from your European tour?

They have these shots called ‘Mexicana’, which are basically little bloody Marys, absolutely delicious. That and all the awesome people we met!

What wisdom did you guys pick up from your ‘Wisdom Machine’ Tour?

We picked up a lot of great high fives and self-assurance that what we are doing as a band actually means something to some people. That is a really great feeling!

The next instalment of your ‘Wisdom Machine’ Tour is giant, what made you guys want to play in more regional towns?

We love touring and think it’s important to get to as many places as we can. A lot of cool towns in Aus get missed on the tour circuit, but we wanna change that and start making national tours actually ‘national’!
