Cedarsmoke Unveil New Single ‘Picasso Blue’ Ahead of Forthcoming Album ‘Under The Rainbow’

Brisbane indie rock outfit Cedarsmoke return this week with their evocative new single Picasso Blue. The track arrives as the second taste of their highly anticipated third album, Under The Rainbow, which will land on October 31.

Known for their vivid storytelling and genre‑blurring style that shifts between indie, folk, and alt‑country, Cedarsmoke have long been a fixture in the Brisbane/Meanjin music scene. With big love coming in from some of the biggest tastemakers, the band’s sound continues to evolve with each release.

Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Blue Period, Picasso Blue draws on themes of loss, art, and transformation. Its cinematic scope references the works of James Joyce, Stanley Kubrick and Miles Davis, with shifting arrangements that move from hushed melancholy to moments of experimental psychosis. The slow‑burn guitars, atmospheric textures, and haunting vocals create a track that is both deeply reflective and sonically adventurous.

“Musically, this song was a chance to experiment. As each verse was set in a different world lyrically, the aim was to pair the new setting with a new arrangement, dramatically shifting the sound from a gentle melancholy to an experimental psychosis.”Jon Cloumassis, Cedarsmoke.

With Under The Rainbow on the horizon, Picasso Blue offers a compelling preview of what’s to come from one of Brisbane’s most imaginative and consistently evolving bands.
