Charlie Lane Releases Emotional New Single ‘Ginger’ and Announces Debut Album

Melbourne/Naarm-based indie-pop artist Charlie Lane returns with her heartfelt new single, Ginger, released today. This tender track is the first glimpse into her upcoming debut album, I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t, set to drop on October 18. With deeply personal lyrics, Ginger reflects on the emotional turmoil and longing of her teenage years, as it was the first song Charlie wrote at just 16.

The track holds special significance, as it was a favorite of her late stepfather. Charlie’s delicate vocals, paired with haunting piano melodies, gradually build with layers of acoustic guitar, strings, and drums, offering a rich, emotive journey. The backing vocals, provided by the Halo Vocal Ensemble, led by Charlie’s friend Liona Tatafu, add a soulful depth to the song, while strings by Emma Kelly elevate its emotional intensity.

“Ginger is a tender one. It was the first song I ever wrote, and comes from my lost little 16 year old heart who liked to push people away a lot. I really hope people can connect with this track, whether they’re grieving, lonely or in love.” – Charlie Lane.

Charlie’s music, shaped by her experiences as a queer and disabled artist, continues to capture listeners’ hearts. Ginger sets the stage for her album, which explores themes of vulnerability, loneliness, and connection.

Fans can expect a powerful, intimate listening experience with the release of I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t next month.
