Charlie Lane Unveils Emotionally Charged Debut Album ‘I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t’

Emerging indie-pop singer-songwriter Charlie Lane has revealed her highly anticipated debut album, I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t. The Melbourne-based artist, known for her raw vulnerability and magnetic energy, delivers 11 deeply personal tracks that dive into the complexities of love, trauma, and self-discovery.

A proud queer and disabled artist, Charlie Lane has cultivated a dedicated fanbase with her unique blend of poignant lyrics and energetic melodies. The album kicks off with the powerful track Gold Drips, a triumphant anthem reclaiming her voice, and moves into the soulful, nostalgic Ginger, which Charlie wrote as a teenager.

Tracks like Fifty Shades of Bruised and Gone showcase her ability to merge heartbreaking themes with unexpected musical arrangements, offering bittersweet reflections on self-worth and mental health. Dance With You brings a retro, synth-driven sound, capturing the innocent vulnerability of unspoken affection, while I Need Sleep paints a sombre portrait of restless nights in a troubled home.

One of the standout moments is Tears, an unflinching exploration of domestic abuse, which Charlie initially hesitated to release. The album wraps up with I Can’t Do Much, an uplifting closer that embraces positive nihilism with a vibrant 80s rock twist.

I’m Okay Now But I Wasn’t is a testament to Charlie Lane’s resilience and artistry. Fans can catch her performing live across Victoria in November and December.
