Citizen Kay & Friends Create Sweet Mash-Up For Like A Version

Australian rapper Citizen Kay has done a sweet mash up of Kanye West, Mark Ronson, and The Commodores for triple j’s Like A Version.

The Emcee was joined by a heap of musicians including members of the Brass Knuckle Brass Band, and Sasha Simone to create his mixed rendition of Brick House, Gold Digger, and Uptown Funk.

The cover mash up adds a soulful twist to the 1977 classic Brick House with female vocals cutting through the horns and funky synth bass. Citizen Kay’s energetic, positive style comes through to somehow make the track even more upbeat than the original.

This energy is carried through to the Kanye West hit Gold Digger, as the horns and keys come through to build the song into an upbeat jam. Uptown Funk is a nice addition, and even though there’s not a lot of musical difference between the cover and it’s original, it ties off the mash up well.

Life Gives You Lemons from Citizen Kay’s 2015 release ‘With The People’ has been blowing up radio stations around the country, turning heads in the underground hip-hop scene.
