Congee Announces Anticipated Debut EP ‘Kwong’

British singer and producer Congee (aka Sam Tsang) is quickly becoming one of the most recognised newcomers in the international alt-pop scene. The North Londoner has announced that his highly-anticipated debut EP Kwong will be released 20 May via AWAL. This news accompanies the release of his latest single ‘Honest’, an exciting glimpse into the tapped potential and endless possibilities of the young artist.

Congee crafted much of the EP alone during lockdown: producing, writing, recording and performing almost everything himself. The six-track project is an impressive expansion of the styles demonstrated in the singles shared earlier in the year. Textured pads, offbeat synths and restrained bass drops deliver a powerful foundation for Congee’s velvety voice. Emotive slurred vocals reminiscent of Billie Eilish and exploratory lo-fi beats akin to Post Malone combine for a contemporary immersive experience.

Kwong is the start of the world I’ve been wanting to create for a long time,” Congee says of the EP. “It’s a collection of songs mostly about my family. I’m so excited for everyone to hear and see it all.”

Having collaborated with huge names Ed Sheeran, Fred again.., Sigrid and Griff, Congee garnered immediate praise for debut single ‘Be Alright’, with its syncopated sonics and experimentation. Seeing support from tastemakers The Fader, DIY and Dork, the track also received radio play on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Music Introducing in London. The future is bright for the emerging talent and what better way to make a mark with a personal touch than a heartfelt ode to his family.
