Dean Lewis Responds to Allegations of Inappropriate Fan Behaviour

Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis has issued a public statement following a wave of allegations of inappropriate behaviour with fans circulating across TikTok in recent days.

The Be Alright and Waves hitmaker became the centre of controversy after multiple women shared stories and screenshots online, alleging that the artist engaged in inappropriate exchanges — including flirty messages, sexting and intimate encounters — with fans over several years. While no criminal activity has been alleged, the claims have reignited discussions about power dynamics between artists and their audiences.

In his social media statement, Lewis admitted to “making an incredible mess,” acknowledging that while his interactions involved consenting adults, he “should have been more sensitive that not everyone might look at our interactions the way I often did.” The singer also claimed that the viral discourse has included “fabricated accounts” and “gross misrepresentations,” but said he takes full responsibility for the pain caused.

Lewis stated he has enrolled in “intense therapy” and will implement a “new set of rules” to avoid blurred boundaries with fans in the future.

The incident arrives as the Australian music industry continues to reckon with cultural reform following the 2022 Raising Their Voices report, which exposed deep-rooted issues around harassment, misconduct and accountability. While Lewis’ apology acknowledges personal failings, it also highlights broader questions — about how fame, loneliness, and access blur ethical lines, and whether genuine reform has truly taken hold across the industry.
