Ears On Spotlight: 5 More Brisbane Bands You Need To Hear

ears-on

We’ve been digging for gold in the local music mines lately, and call us Steggles, cause we’ve been pulling out plenty of nuggets of late. We’re not the greedy kind, because we feel like we need to share our finds with you so that you can impress your friends or the Tinder crush who says they dance alone in bars to bands you wouldn’t know.

Confidence Man

Remember Architecture in Helsinki? Or maybe LCD Soundsystem’s early stuff? What about Junior Senior? Well if any of those even remotely got you excited, then you’ll want Confidence Man on your playlists. The dance group have been turning Unearthed charts into chump change recently with their track Boyfriend, and we can tell you right now that that’s just the start. Click. Listen. Dance. Repeat.

Winchester

winchester

If there’s a somewhat British twang to that Brisbane band name, then you might be on to something, cause this quartet are laying down some of the best Britpop sounds around. Energy bursts forth from the powerful rhythm section, and if you’re standing close to the stage, keep your eyes peeled for shards of broken drumstick, because 11 mightn’t be enough to contain the sound with these guys. There’s a blend of rock and pop with a healthy dose of rawness oozing out of everything that these guys produce, and we know they’ll be the ones to watch going forward. The Queensland Music Awards seem to agree, as the band are sitting on two nominations for their songwriting prowess.

Dave Is A Spy

Indie rockers Dave Is A Spy take influence from a huge stack of bands that will be sure to tickle even the the most non-rocker’s pickle. Their sound is a little bit Ball Park Music, a little bit Custard, a little bit Ben Folds, and even a little bit They Might Be Giants. They’ve been absolutely carving it up on the Unearthed playlists; climbing to the top of the chart with their latest Tindersoul. They also have a ream of shows coming up all over South-East Queensland, so you have no shortage of opportunities to catch them live!

Sunhaus

sunhaus

There is a whole lot going on at a Sunhaus gig, but that doesn’t matter, because once vocalist Aiden Geraghty opens his mouth, you’ll be affixed until the gig is over! But his vocal lines are perfectly matched by the rest of the backing band who lay down impressive Fleetwood Mac-esque blends of guitar, keys and drums. If you ever see these guys on a bill, drop whatever you’re doing (or place it down gently, if it’s fragile), and get down to the show, it will be well worth your time.

FeelsClub

feelsclub

Indietronica outfit FeelsClub have been rocking around Brisbane getting all sorts of people on the same dance floor since they came together, late last year. If you like to throw back to some old school electronic sounds, like Pet Shop Boys or anything from the late 80s, and then mix it in with a whole new aesthetic, then you’ll have a rough approximation of where to attack FeelsClub from. They’ve played alongside Gideon Benson and Philadelphia Grand Jury, and their upcoming shows look set to rock The Brightside with Danksgiving on 11 November!

Check out their track Come On to get an understanding of what you’ll be experiencing when you inevitably see these guys on a festival lineup!
