Eminem Drops Fresh Track, Takes Aim At Everyone (Especially Donald Trump)
The highest selling artist of the 2000’s is back, back again! After his little construction side project bricked, Eminem is back in the studio and he’s taking aim at 2016’s biggest enemies in his freshly minted track Campaign Speech.
Production-wise, the track is as minimalistic as possible, with Shady’s vocal line very much taking the limelight. There are subtle electronic buzzes though most of the song, as if someone left the aux cord half hanging out of their iPod, reminiscent of something stripped back that Kanye or Frank Ocean might have behind their rhymes. Every so often, a sound effect or faded bar or two of sampled beats might emphasise point, but apart from that Eminem’s voice is giving you rhythm, beat, and tempo all by itself.
Eminem doesn’t stay put lyrically, moving from slamming one subject to the next in a smooth transition of rhymes, which may have you thinking “how did we get from presidential decrees on safe sex to Casey Anthony?”. There are a lot of big political issues under fire here, the most obvious being Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump who Shady calls “a f*ckin’ loose cannon who’s blunt with his hand on the button who doesn’t answer to no one”.
George Zimmerman, the Florida man who shot and killed unarmed black teen Trayvon Martin in 2012, was also the recipient of some fire as is Daniel Pantaleo, the NYPD police officer who choked and killed Eric Garner in 2014. Entertainers also come under fire including Robin Thicke who Eminem labels as a “throbbing dick”.
Back in the day, Donald Trump appeared in a promotional video for Eminem’s album ‘Encore’, passing the nomination on to Detroit’s favourite son, but now we have to snap back to reality…
Slimeezy (y’all went too far with this ‘eezy’ stuff, and now rappers have to sound like weight loss pills. Let this be a lesson, Lil Wayne) has said he’s working on a new album, his first since 2013’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2’.
So far, there’s been no word out of the Trump campaign about when DJ Dizzy Don will respond with his diss track.
Check out Campaign Speech below, and keep you eyes peeled for new Eminem material coming up!
BONUS: Video of Donald Trump dancing to Hotline Bling somehow found it’s way on here too, so you now know his rap cred…
