EXCLUSIVE: Tigertown’s Most Romantic Stories
Sydney outfit Tigertown have been kicking plenty of goals recently including smashing sets at SXSW, BIGSOUND, touring with Troye Sivan, St. Lucia, MS MR, and now have dropped the title-track to their upcoming EP! The new track Papernote was inspired by a real life love story, the band’s former drummer had a friend who was sitting in a cafe in Paris when her boyfriend broke up with her over email. She sat alone in the cafe and cried. In an amazing turn of events he later married her, then years later he wanted to go to the same cafe in Paris and write her a love letter. He didn’t make it there, so Tigertown wrote the song for him instead!
With the release of Papernote we asked each member of Tigertown to tell us their most romantic story and their go-to love song!
Alexi – Keyboard
“When I started dating my now wife, we used to make mix tapes for each other. It was a mix our favourite songs and songs that expressed how we felt about each other. I added this song because the lyrics are about wanting to be older so that you could move in together and get married. Also ‘Pet Sounds’ is one of the best albums of all time. On our four-year dating anniversary I gave my wife a “Best Of” mix tape I made with this song at the end, then I proposed!”
Elodie – Bass Guitar
“The greatest love story I know are my Grandparents. My Grandma has Glaucoma and went gradually blind from the age of 40. As she lost her sight completely my Grandpa took make-up and styling lessons so he could make her look beautiful everyday, which he still does to this day. The song I Will Follow You Into The Dark by Death Cab for Cutie makes me think of them. It’s a beautiful song about growing old together and following the other into the darkest of places, even death. But metaphors aside, my Grandpa has literally been there in the darkness for my grandma. Heroes!”
Charlie – Vocals & Synthesiser
When Chris and I first started dating he referenced Pretty Young Thing and said “where did you come from?”. Then before he could propose PYT started playing on the radio by chance and then we walked out to it for our wedding ceremony!
Chris – Guitar
The most epic, romantic moment of my life was when Charlie walked down the aisle on our wedding day. We chose the song Thin Air by Aqualung. Aqualung is one of our favourite songwriters, and it’s almost spooky how specifically this song fit the day. It sings about going down to the sea, sunsets, and storm clouds. We got married on a cliff over looking the ocean, at sunset with storm clouds rolling over. Our friend, who introduced us, sang it and it was an all round perfect moment!
