FIRST WATCH: Hassall’s New Video for ‘Overpopulater’ Is a Caffeinated, Colour-Drenched Fever Dream

We’re thrilled to exclusively premiere the brand new video for Overpopulater, the latest single from Melbourne’s rising indie voice, Hassall.

Following on from the success of her previous track Dinner Table, Overpopulater is another glimpse into Hassall’s upcoming debut album, MEANS MORE TO ME THAN IT DOES TO YOU, due out this July. Rich in lyrical wit and raw emotional honesty, the track further cements Hassall’s place among Australia’s most exciting new songwriters, drawing subtle comparisons to the likes of Courtney Barnett and Angie McMahon.

Today, we’re the first to share the official visuals — a whimsical, fast-paced reflection of the song’s hyperactive energy and introspective themes. Directed by Willem Kingma and shot in the small Victorian town of Colac, the clip channels the restless feeling of being overstimulated and uncertain, captured perfectly through vibrant backdrops, chaotic pacing, and charming domestic settings.

“My favourite part of the day was shooting at our friend Maggie’s house – it was a beautiful old house with feature pieces of furniture, and each room was painted a totally different colour, which made it ideal for filming.”Hassall.

Hassall’s unique storytelling shines through both sonically and visually here, offering an authentic and relatable snapshot of a mind racing with thoughts on love, the planet, and future plans. Overpopulater is available to stream now, and you can catch the music video in full below.
